Dr Oneil Bhalala

Cognitive Neurologist

Dr Oneil Bhalala is a Consultant Neurologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Austin Hospital, practicing in the fields of general neurology, neurodegeneration and dementia. He completed his undergraduate degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA) and a PhD in Neuroscience at Northwestern University (Chicago, USA), before completing his MD (with distinction) at the University of Melbourne. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, after undertaking a fellowship in dementia medicine.

 

Dr Bhalala is providing advanced therapies for dementia, including amyloid targeting antibodies for Alzheimer’s disease (Donanemab, Lecanemab). He is also actively involved in research at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, the Austin Hospital and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He leads clinical and research studies that use blood tests to predict dementia risk and to help with diagnosis. He is a recipient of the Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance Genomics Immersion Fellowship.
